There are four variables involved in the process of ethylene oxide sterilization. (Concentration of gas, Temperature, Humidity, Exposure Time)
&nbsp;
Humidity is very important in the sterilization process.
1. The humidity needs to be controlled at 30%RH-80%RH during the sterilization process to facilitate the penetration of ETO into biological cells for effective sterilization.
2. Sterilization can still be sterilized at humidity levels below 30%RH, but the penetration rate is lower than 30-80%RH. It will take more time for exposure.&nbsp;
3. Humidity levels higher than 80%RH also can do sterilization, but it may lead to condensation inside the sterilization chamber. ETO is soluble in water, so there is a risk of ETO being absorbed by water, which will insufficient ETO &nbsp;concentration and take more time in sterilization.
4. Excessive humidity can cause the ink on product packaging boxes to dissolve. Therefore, humidity should not be too high to protect the package.
